About us

The Kings Head Bawburgh is a family run gastropub and luxury bed and breakfast near Norwich. Celebrating their milestone forty years of ownership in 2023, Anton Wimmer and his family pride themselves in their reputation which has stood the test of time as they have adapted to this ever-changing industry.

Did you know, The Kings Head initially started as a sporting club in 1983, with four squash courts, bowling green and a petanque pitch, alongside two bars. Pamela and Tony Wimmer were the welcoming faces behind the bar. Son Anton could be seen from time to time around his school studies, later taking over the reigns in the 90s.

As one of the original pioneers of gastropub dining in Norfolk, The Kings Head Bawburgh has its menu and philosophy firmly rooted in local markets. From a close relationship between well-established local produce suppliers is born an a regularly changing la carte menu and weekly changing 48.5 mile menu packed with proper pub classics with imaginative, local twists. The talented team prepare and beautifully cook with the finest seasonal local produce available from Norfolk, Suffolk and East Anglia.

In 2015 owner Anton was able to achieve his life long ambition of converting the old disused rooms above the inn into rooms. The Kings head Bawburgh is now a boutique bed and breakfast near Norwich nestled in the beautiful countryside. Each room is named after people linked to the history of The Kings Head. For example, Blyth is named after the first lady licensee Sarah and inn keeper in 1853 and the Tilney suite; William Tilney built the Kings Head in 1602. In 2017 two self catering short or long term let apartments completed the Kings Head refurbishments – for now!

We would love you to visit us and enjoy the warm hospitality of our pub and B&B in Norwich’s glorious countryside, just a few miles from Norwich City Centre, a perfect base to explore Norfolk.
